Minooka Mud! Get excited for Englewood!
We had an EPIC race weekend in Minooka, battling a deluge of over two inches of rain all day! Our riders stayed positive and found the fun in the mud, despite some of the wildest conditions we've ever seen at a NICA race. There’s really no way to describe how muddy it was - take a look at our team photo album to see for yourself. We’ve pulled photos of our riders from the WI League site and added them to this album as well.
Congrats, team! We had several podium finishes and are super proud of our first-time racers…way to start things off with a bang!
Please review the venue-specific notes above.
We're well into the swing of things now that we've got two races under our belts, so we will keep this update brief.
ENGLEWOOD RACE
If Englewood will be your first race for the season, make sure to look over the following info extra carefully!
Here's what you need to know for this weekend’s race:
Read the league race flyer/email. Englewood is a unique venue and you'll want to have a heads up about the cows, no-dog rule, and the electric fences. Here's the link to the league race email with all the details.
Last weekend we had such an amazing smorgasbord of snacks, we do NOT need much more this week…we will bring all the leftovers! Fruit and other perishable items would be appreciated, though. THANK YOU to the parents who brought so many awesome, nutritious goodies for our riders to stay fueled/recovered all weekend!
Weather is looking more promising this weekend, but it is unlikely that we’ll escape without seeing some rain. Please come prepared with the clothing/gear you need. Again, we recommend extra layers, gloves, wet wipes, towels, and trash bags to carry home any wet gear!
As always, check our team schedule (with an updated whiteboard at the Pit Zone) and rider packing list.
UPCOMING PRACTICES AND EVENTS
Speaking of rain…for tonight’s practice, it's unlikely we will be able to ride trails; we will have some on-the-bike games set up for riders - when they arrive, they can cruise down the hill by the West Chalet for a game of bike soccer/cardboard slide, etc. We will kick off the potluck between 6 and 6:30 in the West Chalet. Stop in anytime after 5 to drop off your dishes! We will be selling raffle tickets for $10 each as well - these are a big fundraiser for our team/the league - bring some cash if you’re interested in winning some awesome prizes (like a tricked-out new bike!)
Practice locations are updated through the end of September on the team calendar.
Tomorrow is the last day to register for our September GRiT ride! We will have one more ride on October 14th to wrap up our Friday night ride series…stay tuned for more info and some fun additions to the evening.
On Tuesday next week, our riders will be assisting local trail stewards with projects at Blackhawk, Blue Mounds, and Cross Plains (check the calendar to see where your team is headed!) Riders should wear clothes that can get dirty, and should also bring work gloves. We may still have time to ride after our work wraps up, so bring lights/helmets/bikes, etc.
Remember that there is an ADVENTURE RIDE at the John Muir Trails on Saturday, Oct. 8! More details on our REGISTRATION FORM. Please sign up as soon as possible; it helps us plan/communicate our logistics!
