We are so excited to return to racing with the Wisconsin High School Cycling League this weekend! Here are a few last-minute reminders, logistics, and details from Coach Dirk Horne. Families that are attending the race this weekend should not only read this information carefully, but also review the league RACE FLYER, found here. Remember, even if you aren’t currently registered for the race, you can still participate by registering on-site with the league. IF you still have questions after reading through this info, please email Dirk!

COVID Info:

  • If you are sick, don't come. Stay home and get better.

  • Masks are required in the "infield" of the event venue. This includes in our pit area, at and around the start/finish line, and the course feed zone. We are not mask police so the expectation is that folks abide by the league's rules so as to not garner ill standing or punitive action for our team.

  • Sharable foods should not be "many hands into one pot". Items brought with the intention to be shared should be pre-portioned or pre-packaged single serve items.

Venue Specific Info:

  • The race takes place at Minooka Park, located at 1927 E. Sunset Dr., Waukesha, WI 53189

  • A Waukesha county park day permit is needed to park your car at the park (a permit is needed both days). Here is the link to buy the parking pass online: https://waukeshacounty.maxgalaxy.net/Membership.aspx?PackageID=566

  • There will be a gate at the front of the park checking pre-purchased parking permits and selling parking permits.

  • After you go through the permit gate, follow the park road for 1/3 mile and follow the instructions of the parking attendants. They should have you park atop a hill looking down at an area that will be full of team tents. Look for the orange Blackhawk Composite tent as that is where we will be congregating.

Stuff to Bring:

  • A positive attitude :-)

  • Cash for league merchandise and food trucks

  • Camp chairs

  • Camera

  • Noise makers and/or encouraging signs

  • Bug spray and sunscreen

  • Clothing appropriate for the weather, including a change of clothes for riders.

  • Lunch and hydration for your athlete and for yourself

  • Personal medical needs (medications, inhalers, epi pens, etc.)

Itinerary for Saturday:

  • The race plates for all team members and coaches will be available at the team tent throughout the day. A plate must be affixed to the rider's bike to be allowed on the course.

  • Female identifying riders that wish to ride in the GRiT pre-ride need to be at the venue and ready to ride by 11:40 am.

  • Team pre-ride for freshmen and upperclassmen will be at 2:00 pm. These riders should be at the venue ready to ride by 1:40 pm.

  • Team pre-ride for middle school athletes will be at 2:45 pm. These riders should be at the venue ready to ride by 2:15 pm.

  • Parent orientation to the venue (where to stand to see your rider) will be at 3:00 pm.

  • Additional pre-ride laps can occur up until 5:30 pm and are dependent on coach availability.

  • Shut down our pit area ~6:15 pm.

Itinerary for Sunday:

  • Middle school male riders need to be at the venue at 7:45 am ready to ride.

  • Middle school male rider warm ups will begin at 8:00 am.

  • All other riders need to be at the venue by 8:45 am.

  • The last race we have riders in starts at 12:30 pm.

  • Awards are at ~4:00 pm.

General Info:

  • All Driftless MTB families that are camping will be grouped together in the camp area at the park. Bonding is encouraged!

  • A number of Driftless MTB families are staying at the Hampton Inn. Again, bonding is encouraged!

  • A large group dinner on Saturday with all riders and families is not feasible given the size of the group. Ideally families that are friends will coordinate having dinner together either camping or at a local restaurant.

  • Any food brought to share should be nutritious (apples, granola bars, etc.). Brownies, cookies, donuts, etc. are discouraged. Caffeine is not allowed to be consumed by riders on race day.

  • The team will supply some snacks for the pit area and will supply some energy blocks for racers.

  • Pack out what you pack in, including garbage.

Families, if you are new to the wonderful world of NICA racing, lean on our other families that are seasoned pros! (Coach Cheryl is not only a race expert, but volunteers with the league!) Ask questions, get excited, and be ready for a great weekend together riding bikes!
