Week 9: HALF-WAY MARK!

THE 1st EVENT/RACE WEEKEND OF THE ‘23 SEASON IS IN THE BOOKS!

What a wonderful first event weekend it was! Great work to all of our riders and a huge thank you to all parents and coaches who helped organize racers, the tent, pre-rides, warm-ups, staging, and all the other minutiae.

It was hot, the days were long, and some athletes were feeling the effects of both heat and improper or less-than-adequate nutrition. Athletes cannot race on excitement alone. Please make sure your student athlete eats well and hydrates both the day of as well as the day before a race.

  • NUTRITION: For most, both a good breakfast and a healthy snack about two hours before their event is recommended. They will likely be hungry after their race as well.

  • HYDRATION: Especially when it’s quite warm, proper hydration likely includes a hydration mix of some sort. For race days an athlete should plan to bring any hydration mix/tablets/gels/gummies/etc. they will need for the whole day. Please keep in mind, race day is not generally a good time to try something new. Find what works for your student athlete during practices so there are no last minute surprises. If you have questions about what coaches use, please feel free to ask.*

*Any medically-related questions regarding what your student athlete’s needs are regarding extended exposure to heat and/or high-intensity exertion should be addressed with their physician.

LOOKING AHEAD TO EVENT WEEKEND #2 - LOWES CREEK - Eau Claire (9/16-9/17)

If you are attending the Event Weekend at Lowes Creek and plan to camp, remember the deadline to book your camping is by END OF THE DAY ON WEDNESDAY **this week**. If you plan to go and are NOT camping, make sure to book another type of lodging ASAP.

We are in need of healthy snacks & supplies during Event Weekends; please sign up if you’re attending and able to help.

Race plates are used all season. If you received your race plates at Telemark, you are responsible for bringing them to future races. The league charges a fee to replace them, so don’t forget!

The League is always in need of volunteers at the races. There are several types of positions that require zero experience and don’t even have anything to do with a bike. Please consider signing up to help. Click here to electronically sign a ONE TIME use waiver for Volunteers under the age of 18. Must be completed by Parent or Guardian. Click here to electronically sign a ONE TIME use waiver for Volunteers 18 and over (this is only if you are not a registered coach with NICA for 2023).

SHORTER DAYS → DIFFERENT PRACTICE TIMES & LIGHTS REQUIRED

Practice times bump up to 5:30-7:30 for the rest of the season, starting 9/5. ***Bring a bright, secure, charged bike light!*** It may not seem dark out in the open, but back in the trails, it gets dark quickly.

A big shout-out to all who made the trek north to Telemark and braved the heat!

SAY CHEESE!!!

Thurs. 9/7 - Team picture night! **Arrive on time!** We’ll be @ Blackhawk (East Chalet). Please do NOT be late! There are only so many hours of good picture-taking daylight these days, so we will not be able to wait for late arrivals. Please wear the GRAY PRACTICE SHIRT you received!

Event/Race Weekends are such a great experience! What’s your best memory of Telemark 2023??

RAFFLE TICKETS

Raffle tickets continue to be available approx. 30 minutes prior to each practice! Don’t forget to pick yours up! Bring your $$ and we’ll have tickets available.

TEAM DIRECTORS & HEAD COACHES: 2024

We are looking for some awesome folks to step up for the 2024 season! We are in need of a Team Director for Middleton MTB and also for Mt. Horeb MTB. We are also looking for a Head Coach for Mt. Horeb. These positions can be solo or a duo team effort. The Team Director spot does NOT require any biking ability, as this is more of an organizational position. Please let your current Team Director/Head Coach know if you’re interested in learning what each position entails. Thank you for considering!
