SEEKING TWO WONDERFUL TEAM DIRECTORS!
Are you stoked on what we’re doing to get more kids on bikes in Middleton or Mount Horeb? Are you organized, efficient, and great at communicating? Are you an overall positive and thoughtful human being?
If you answered yes, then read on! We are looking for a TEAM DIRECTOR for the 2024 Driftless MTB season. This person (or people, should the role be split) helps as part of the Driftless leadership team to keep each team running smoothly, while also contributing to our greater Driftless MTB organization.
This role is considered a volunteer role, but a stipend from the school district is available. Generally, this stipend is split between the head coach and team director. Please reach out with questions.
The role of the Team Director(s) is to lead all team communication between riders and families, coaches and other volunteers, and between the League/NICA staff.
This role can be done by one person, or split between multiple people based on their interests/strengths/abilities! Team Directors are not required to ride along at practice, but they will need to undergo NICA’s coach license training and achieve at least a Level 1 coach license (about 3 hours of online education/training completed at your own pace). This training helps volunteers feel confident, competent, and knowledgeable about their role in organizing a youth mountain biking team.
Here is a general overview of the team director role:
Serve as operational lead for the team, and as one of the liaisons for the board of directors
Implement the mission and vision of Driftless MTB Inc.
Work with the board of directors to ensure that the team is functioning within the bylaws of Driftless MTB Inc. and NICA’s team standards/rules
Collaborate with head coaches on season planning
Coordinate and assist with implementation of season planning with head coaches
Work with head coaches and other Driftless team directors regarding logistics for the team (planning, permits in limited contexts, etc.)
Create avenues for feedback from all stakeholders (student-athletes, families, coaches, volunteers) and use feedback to inform future team planning
Organize/coordinate volunteers
Assist head coach with coach recruitment when necessary
Create volunteer roles and solicit help for team practices, events, and races
Coordinate non-riding team events (i.e. end of season banquet, etc.)
Serve as a team connection to NICA (national) and WIMTB (state) when questions arise
Participate in league team director email group
Ask questions on behalf of the team in the appropriate channels
Represent the team professionally and courteously in any context
Communication lead for families
Work with head coaches to create weekly team communication for parents
Create new website content/updates when necessary using an easy-to-learn website platform (SquareSpace)
After several years of dialing in systems and working as part of a collaborative leadership group, there’s a super solid foundation that’s been set up. That means that there is infrastructure and direction for whoever steps into these roles. We strongly encourage anyone who is interested in any aspect of these roles to connect with someone from the current Driftless leadership team to learn more about it!
A FEW (RAD) DETAILS:
You don’t have to ride to be in this role: it really is more focused on organization, communication, and coordinating with the head coaches to make all the good stuff happen.
The timing is flexible: team director tasks can be completed nearly anytime during the day that you have the flexibility to work - you are not tied to a practice calendar. The role works around you and your schedule!
Thanks for reading this far and considering how your strengths and talents could shine in this awesome and rewarding role. If you’re interested or even just curious, please send us a note and we will gladly answer any and all questions! Can’t wait to hear from you.
