It’s August!

All - it’s August which means we’re riding trails and getting psyched for races! Please read our entire update for important news that you need to know for our teams.

NEWS UPDATE SUMMARY:

  • All-teams practices begin this week!

  • Team photos: Thursday, Aug. 11

  • Camping coordinator urgently needed!

  • Race weekend guide - info from the WI League

Additionally, as season logistics become more complex, please continue to reference the calendar for practice locations. Also, be sure to add our head coach/team director contact info to your phone, in case you need to reach us during practice time. We’ve included this info in the body of the email that we sent you. Try contacting the head coach first, then the team director. Texts and calls both work great!

All-team practices

This week all three of our Driftless teams will be gathering to get to know one another and ride dirt together! Both practices this week are at Blackhawk Ski Club. Please meet at the West Chalet (see our calendar for a map link!)

Team Photos

Our team is lucky to have the services of local photographer Ric Cederholm for our team photography. Ric has generously donated his time to photograph our NICA teams for many years, and provides his photos for FREE download for families and riders. Riders may opt to have an individual photo taken in addition to the large-group team photos. Please make an effort to attend our photo night at Blackhawk on Thursday, Aug. 11th. Riders need to wear their team practice shirts!

Camping Coordinator URGENTLY NEEDED

We are seeking a camping coordinator who can help us organize our team’s camping logistics for race weekends this season! Camping at races is awesome - we encourage it!

Camping coordinator is a simple role that reports our team camping numbers to the league and helps the league understand how much space we’ll need for our families at each race camp area. If you plan to camp this year at races, email Em if you can assist with this small role. We could really use your help!

If you have any questions about camping, please reference this document from the Wisconsin League. Each venue has slightly different camping regulations so please, please plan ahead.

Race weekend flyers

The Wisconsin League has published its RACE WEEKEND GUIDE which has all of the detailed info you need for race logistics for the season! Please read through it thoroughly.

Many questions about race logistics can be answered in this guide, via the Wisconsin League website, and on our Driftless MTB Racing page.

Please take the time to review both of these resources!

We would encourage any families who are interested in racing to register now and plan for accommodations. Things can book up fast!

Stay tuned for more race-related updates in the coming weeks. We will be sending volunteer sign ups and also sharing information about our team responsibilites to help at the Englewood race weekend! Get stoked!

GRiT August Ride at Trek Trails - registration is OPEN!

Female athletes are reminded to sign up for the first of our GRiT Friday Night Rides with Madison West!

We are teaming up with Madison West MTB to run a series of three GRiT (Girls Riding Together) events at the Trek Trails in Waterloo, WI this season! Female athletes and coaches are invited to join us to ride the private trails system at Trek Bikes’ Waterloo headquarters with other awesome women on bikes!

This is a special opportunity for girls girls/women who ride in our area build community and connection throught the season. Trek has graciously opened their entire private trail system to our two groups of teams, and we are stoked to ride together! These trails aren’t open to the public so this is a really cool opportunity for our riders. Trails range from easy/mellow to intermediate/advanced. We will have groups for every ability level/pace!

Rides will take place on Fridays, from 6 - 9 p.m. on the dates listed below. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED and the August ride is open for sign-ups! Join for one or all of the rides!
