October is here!
Last month of our season - can you believe it?! Two more event weekends, and only a few practices before we say goodbye to our 2023 season. Here are a few reminders for this week, as we prep for our last big race “away” from home! Even though it’s our fourth race, there is still NEW INFO so please read carefully!
Student-Athlete code of conduct reminder: Ride with respect
Riders! A quick reminder that feet belong on pedals at all times that you are riding. We've had multiple mishaps of late due to riding uncontrolled with feet kicking plants or just flailing in the wind (yikes!) Besides the safety factor, riding without feet on pedals is not being respectful of both team and NICA rules.
Raffle tickets: LAST CALL!
We’ll need to turn in ALL raffle tickets this upcoming weekend at our Nordic Mountain event…so be sure to sell any remaining tickets you may have! Please return tickets to your team director or raffle coordinator before the end of the week.

TEAM THEME! TROPICAL vibes
We’re going to try something new and add a THEME to our pre-ride day (and race day if you want to double up!) - please bring your best TROPICAL GARB and get ready to say aloha at Nordic Mountain!
TEAM SNACKS & SUPPLIES
Thanks for helping stock the Pit Zone with tasty, healthy snacks and supplies that are vital to our riders! We really appreciate it. Sign up here to bring something to Nordic Mountain!
Food reminder
Even though we have a ton of awesome snacks available on Saturday/Sunday, we want to remind families that riders need to supplement what is available in Pit Zone with their own food/lunch. We do not recommend that riders come to the event and subsist on Goldfish crackers all day! :) Please pack enough food for those hungry, active athlete bodies (on Saturday, food cart choices are limited, and on Sunday, lines can be quite long). Pit Zone supplies are intended for snacking, but certainly don’t constitute a well-rounded meal.
PLEASE NOTE: WE HAVE REMOVED POWDERED DRINK MIX FROM OUR TEAM/VOLUNTEER-SUPPLIED ITEMS. WE ASK THAT ATHLETES PLEASE BRING THEIR OWN HYDRATION MIXES TO EACH EVENT MOVING FORWARD. THANK YOU!
Logistics
REGISTRATION: Remember that race registration closes TUESDAY at 11:59 PM! You can still register at the venue, but wave placement moves to the back of the waves. Log into Pit Zone to register.
WAIVER FOR NORDIC MOUNTAIN: Nordic Mountain requires their own waiver to be signed for everyone who is riding bikes at Nordic. This waiver was provided as an added link in Pit Zone when registering for the season and the race. If you did not complete the waiver at that time, please click the correct link below and complete it before arriving onsite. If you are not sure if you already signed, please just sign again. There is both a coach waiver and an athlete waiver.
HS OPEN: If you are riding in the HS Open category, Pit Zone has been updated so you can register normally! Please register as soon as possible in Pit Zone if this applies to you.
VOLUNTEER AT THE RACE: The league needs volunteers! SO many of you helped out at Englewood - THANK YOU! Consider signing up to help again. You can sign up for our Nordic Mountain race, and for Trek State Champs!
PRE-RIdes
Pre-riding has been (as you know) quite busy! We have noticed that pre-riding tends to move faster after 3 PM, so if you are a rider who is seeking a fast, continuous lap, consider waiting to join us for a 3 PM ride. If you are a rider who likes to stop and session features, or the pace of the ride is less important than simply seeing/riding the trail once or twice, feel free to arrive between 1-2 PM. We know you can’t always control your weekend schedule, but we’re offering this as a helpful tip for riders/families.
The GRiT Pre-ride will gather at the GRiT tent on Saturday at 11:30 for a 12PM ride. Join other girls at the GRiT tent later from 2-4PM for activities/camaraderie!
Coaches, please sign up HERE for race-weekend volunteer shifts!
Adventure Fun
If you are looking to fit in some added riding while you’re away for the weekend, WI’s Adventure Squad has you covered. Standing Rocks County Park is a 45-minute drive from Nordic Mountain and has 25 miles of trails to explore. Contact Adventure Coordinator, Joe FitzGibbon at joseph@wisconsinmtb.org for opportunities to coordinate ride time with other teams. The Adventure Squad will also host On-the-Bike Games on Saturday at 5PM near staging, AND there will be off-the-bike games at the Adventure tent on Saturday afternoon and Sunday Morning. Bring a friend and play a game of bags, giant jenga, washer toss or water bottle flip!
CAMPING
The league would like to remind families that once NICA events end on Saturday, athletes are under the care of their parents/guardians. The infield (general race area) and course are CLOSED on Saturday evening as soon as pre-rides finish! All athletes, coaches, family and friends should be enjoying the company and activities of their teams. Please know the whereabouts of your athletes and others and ensure good decisions are being made. Wandering through the race course is not allowed.
TREK CX WORLD CUP
Did you know that Trek hosts a world-cup level race every fall in Waterlool?! From October 12-15 you can join one of the most fun cycling events of the year, and while you’re there, you can volunteer to support NICA in a really simple way! The league is looking for folks aged 21+ to work as servers in the beer tents. All the tips go to the league, which helps raise thousands of dollars. After your volunteer shift, enjoy the racing, food, merch tents, and the entertainment/fun hospitality that Trek always provides. Sign up here for a shift!
PS - Check out the full schedule/registration here. ANYONE can participate/volunteer for the event! It is truly a blast.
