Week 7: ADVENTURE WEEKENDS, RIDES & RACES - OH MY!
We have all sorts of information, so please read to make sure you’re up-to-speed!
EVENT/RACE WEEKENDS
Event Weekend/Race Season is right around the corner! These weekends used to be called “Race Weekends” and they were primarily focused on racing. Over time, the league has changed these weekends to include more events outside of just racing - hence the name change. We highly recommend checking out an Event Weekend, even if you don’t plan to race. We will be holding a VIRTUAL Q&A this Wednesday 8/23 @ 7pm. Please log on and be ready with whatever questions you may have! If you plan to camp for any event weekend, please note the deadline for camping reservations is earlier than in previous years. We ask that all families (and especially our new riders) review our event weekend FAQs AND the league’s race info.
JOHN MUIR ADVENTURE RIDE
This fantastic ride has been rescheduled for Saturday 8/26 @ 10am. Bring a lunch! We’ll ride from 10am until about noon and take a break for lunch. Afterward, you can head out, or keep riding until about 2pm. So far, the forecast looks gorgeous, so let’s hit the trails!
CHECK TEAM SNAP FOR PRACTICE LOCATIONS
We’ll be at various venues over the next few weeks - please make sure to check TeamSnap for practice locations! Also - it’ll be hot again this week. ***Athletes MUST have proper hydration (water bottle and water bottle cage or hydration pack) in order to participate!***
Tues. 8/22 - Intro to Cyclocross @ Badger Prairie. You’ll learn the basics of what’s involved in cyclocross. FYI, a Cyclocross World Cup Race takes place in Waterloo (Trek HQ) the weekend of 10/13-10/15. Go check it out! You can watch amazing athletes from around the world pretty much in our own backyard!
Thurs. 8/24 - We’re at Blue Mounds (top of the hill in the big grass field) for a Short Course Race. Join us for popsicle treats after practice!
Tues. 8/29 is trail work day. Remember how COMPLETELY AWESOME the trails have been at Blackhawk? That’s thanks to folks working on the trials and making them awesome! Be part of the awesomeness by helping out on Tuesday 8/29. Each team will be meeting at a different trail system, so please look ahead so you know which direction to go that day.
Thurs. 8/31 - We’re at Blackhawk for a Relay Race. ****IT IS ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL YOUR ATHLETE’S AVAILABILITY IS MARKED IN TEAM SNAP FOR THIS PRACTICE, OR THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO BE ON A RELAY TEAM**** We will have riders of ALL abilities, and everyone is on a team. Everyone who races will win a prize - but ***only if your availability is indicated in TeamSnap by 8/24*** We will be asking for volunteers to help out at this practice - keep an eye out for future communication regarding this practice and please consider giving us a hand.
Tues. 9/5 - Practice times bump up to 5:30-7:30 for the rest of the season, starting 9/5. ***Bring a good, secure, charged bike light!*** Ask a coach if you have any questions about lights.
Thurs. 9/7 - Team picture night! **Arrive on time!** We have LOTS of athletes and it gets dark relatively early. If we wait for late arrivals, we lose the daylight needed for pictures. We respectfully request that you please arrive on time.
