Week 4: TIME TO HIT THE TRAILS

Hello Driftless MTB families! The weather is looking pretty fantastic for riding this week! Please read below for this week’s updates!

BE PRACTICE-READY!

FLAT TIRES are a bummer. But not so bad if they can be fixed on the spot. It’s good to get in the habit of carrying a tire lever and spare tube (or bacon strips for those with tubeless tires). We’ve had quite a few flat tires in the first practices. With the correct supplies, riders can continue their ride, but coaches do not carry spare tubes. For those who plan to race, this is especially important. If you have a flat during a race, you can have outside assistance changing your tire, but you need to carry your own parts. Swing into a local bike shop, let them know what bike/tires you have, and pick up a tire lever and tube.

HYDRATE! Please make sure your child keeps hydrated throughout the day and comes to practice with adequate hydration - either in a water bottle/cage or hydration pack. We will not be able to allow anyone without a water bottle/cage or hydration pack to participate.

HOW OFTEN HAS YOUR CHILD ATTENDED PRACTICE?

Please recall the 4-practice requirement for your student-athletes. For several reasons, the primary of which is safety, we require that all student-athletes attend at least 4 practices in the first 4 weeks of the season. We are heaviest on basic skills training in the first 4 weeks, and this is essential to our efforts to keep your child safe. August 4 marks the end of the 1st 4 weeks. Help us help your kids ride safely!

IMPORTANT PRACTICE LOCATION INFO FOR Middleton/Waunakee Families!!

THANK YOU Middleton/Waunakee families for using the street to park/drop-off/pick-up your child for the practice @ Park Elementary. ****Please note that (unbeknownst to us) there is new construction on the bridge between Park Elementary and the trail system in Cross Plains. It’s not impossible to get from the school to the trails, but it’s a bit of a round-about route we’d prefer to avoid if possible. We have reached out to the village to secure a park with a large grass field that’s located closer to the trail system, but we won’t know for certain if that has been approved until the day of practice (Tuesday 8/1). ***Please watch TeamSnap carefully for any last minute changes of meeting location.***
